Google AI Overview

What is Google AI Overview?

Google AI Overview is the AI-generated summary that regularly appears when you search for something on Google. Instead of just the traditional list of links, AI analyzes various web sources. A concise and clear answer to your search query, complete with clickable links, appears in a flash.

Why Is the Importance of AI Overview Increasing?

It’s designed to answer complex questions right away. Think of it as similar to what featured snippets used to do, but more comprehensive. A featured snippet was a highlighted piece of text at the top of the organic results on the SERP. It appeared as a text excerpt, table, image, or list. If you asked Google what the capital of Australia is, you’d see “Canberra” in a featured snippet.

AI Overview is therefore changing the way users search and the way businesses appear in Google. People often receive a complete answer to a detailed question without having to search for it themselves. AI Overview helps them do just that. When it includes your website in a list, your visibility increases. This helps you build online authority, one of the most important aspects of being discoverable in search engines.

Google AI Mode

In AI search engines like ChatGPT and Claude, you chat with the AI bot. They provide immediate answers to all your questions. Thanks to Google AI Mode, you can now do the same in AI Overview. At the bottom of the overview that appears, you’ll see a chat window. If you click on it, Google will answer your follow-up question.

This is done using Gemini, Google’s AI model. Feel free to compare it to ChatGPT or Microsoft Copilot. Gemini is also integrated into Google Workspace, just like Google Docs and Gmail. As a result, it helps you write texts or analyze data.

How can you take advantage of Google AI Overview?

  • Write content in clear, natural language and use structured data on your website
  • Focus on experience, authority, and trustworthiness (EEAT) in your writing
  • Use structured data to help Google understand your content
  • Use a clear structure: logical H2 and H3 headings
  • Take advantage of for linkbuilding
