SERP Simulator: How Google Displays Your Website

Captivating text, stunning images, beautiful layout… Your brand-new page has everything it takes to entice and amaze your online audience. Just as important as the information you share is the information about that information. You use that metadata to tell search engines and visitors what to expect. But how do you write the perfect metadata, and how does Google display it? You’ll find out with Digital Climax’s SERP Simulator.

Entering Metadata in the SERP Simulator

For web pages, metadata specifically consists of the page title and the meta description. These appear together in the SERP, the Search Engine Results Page. The page title is the blue text that visitors click on to go to your website; the meta description provides more information about the content of your page.

In short, follow these rules for your metadata:

  • Your page title can be up to 60 characters long, and your meta description can be between 120 and 160 characters.
  • Your page title should include your keyword, preferably as close to the beginning as possible.
  • Don’t use the title to include your company name; use it to highlight unique benefits instead.
  • In your meta description, use short, engaging sentences with a clear call to action.

You’ll find many more practical tips in our metadata guide. And you can quickly identify issues with your metadata (or get inspiration from others’ pages) thanks to our SEO Tool extension.

How the SERP Simulator Works

A step-by-step guide to seeing how Google displays your page

Is my page title compelling enough? Is my meta description too long? And how will my web page look in the search results? You can find the answers to all these questions using our SERP Simulator. This makes it easy for you to get started on your own.

  1. Enter the URL of your new page at the top. For example, for our page on SEO, it is https://www.digital-climax.be/seo/.
  2. Come up with a page title, keeping our tips in mind. Pay attention to the colors: orange means it’s too short, blue means it’s just right, and red means it’s too long. For example, our SEO page has the page title “SEO in 2026 | What Is SEO & How Does It Work? [Beginner’s Guide].”
  3. Enter your meta description. Keep our tips in mind and review the ideal length. The meta description for our landing page on search engine optimization is: “SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. SEO is the process of optimizing technology, content, and authority.”
  4. Enter your keywords below. Separate multiple keywords with a comma. Your keywords will appear in bold in the description, just as they do in the SERP.
  5. Would you like to do a little more? If so, check the“Advanced”box and add your company name and the URL of your favicon—the square icon associated with your website that usually displays your logo.

Tip

Not sure where your favicon is? Open your website, right-click, and select “View Page Source.” Then press Ctrl+F and search for “link rel=“icon””.
